Unless you drive a car you may never need to enter this place. You can seemingly park a scooter anywhere in the city and don’t have to pay fees unless you manage to get yourself towed. While cars seem able to get away with staying double-parked for hours, there is some enforcement of parking regulations. Notably, it does cost money to park your car on a street or in a city parking lot. Unlike in many western countries, however, you don’t have to buy time on a meter and rush back before the time runs out to avoid some $35 ticket. There’s no time violation in Taiwan. The longer you park, the more you have to pay. Just take your little ticket to the nearest convenient store and pay it like any bill. So even if you do have a car, you may never need to enter this building.

So why would you have to go to the Tainan City Public Parking Management office? Well, aside from having to pay for any overdue parking fees (much like any bill, 7-11 won’t take it if its overdue), they offer some other very convenient parking services for people with cars. One is a monthly pass that will allow you unlimited parking in city parking lots for a fixed price. The other is that you can set up your bank or telephone service provider to automatically debit all parking fees. Both are very convenient ways to avoid thinking about your parking fees. Visit their website for more information.
